I only use EEC & FDA approved paints that have been passed as being safe for the skin. However, I won't paint any child under 2 as they have a different texture to their skin and no skin paints are recommended for use on the under 2's. I will though offer them the alternative of having their arms done and many very young children prefer this as it's less frightening for them. If your child does have sensitive skin I will do a skin test about 30 mins before painting to be on the safe side.
How clean is the equipment used, the brushes and sponges?
Firstly I will check that the face is clean before applying any paint. I will not paint the face if there are any open sores or signs of infection or if the child has excema on their face. Again, an alternative of a painting on the arm will be offered. I use a clean sponge for every child so there is no danger of any cross infection. The sponges are washed at 60C after each event. All the brushes are cleaned between each child also and then air dryed after the event that way no mould develops.
What if there was an accident i.e. the paint, or the brush got in their eyes?
In the unlikely event of this happening I do have PL Insurance. The certificate is displayed whenever I am working in a public place.
Will everyone be able to have the painting that they want done?
Face painting takes time so it's important to know how many children need painting and book the necessary time to ensure they can all be done. As a guideline allow 1 hour per 8 - 10 children. So if you are inviting 20 children and the party is for 2 hours that's just about right, however you will definitely need 2 painters if 40 children are coming.
I reserve the right to refuse to paint any child who appears to be unwell or who genuinely does not wish to be painted, or any child that really cannot be still for the time required, If your child is a 'wriggler' it can be unsafe to attempt to paint anywhere near their eyes. I will offer them the alternative of having their arm painted, many prefer this as they can see it too! Designs are available for boys (who love a dragon or a skull and crossbones) and girls.
I will strive to meet all requests but I reserve the right to refuse to paint any text or symbol that I believe is likely to cause offence i.e. swastica.
